Quitting TESO, sorry

I won't continue to play TESO. Zenimax asked me for reasons via mail. Here they are.

- Multiplayer combat is not very fun. Other players move too fast / use confusing, overloaded visuals. I never know what the others are currently doing, which mob they are fighting, usually I don't even know where they are.

- I get little feedback as to what I am doing. Did I hit my opponent hard? Did my heal actually make a difference? AoE heals that I cast on cooldown aren't a good system IMHO.

- Single player content is fun for a while but not worth the subscription. Dungeon layouts are the same far too often (always?).

- The story - especially the beginning - is ridiculous. I am the prisoner of an evil god and just walk out of his plane. Just like that. It's really anticlimatic. Gods I should face when I am level 100. Certainly not at level 1. Queens and kings should be interested in me when I am level 40, not at level 1. And so on.

- Too strong incentives to explore the world, which turns the exploration into achievement hunting. Who put all those treasure chests there anyway?? And lorewise skyshards are absurd, really!

    1. I'll test the new expansion. Pandas are finally gone and in many ways I like recent design decisions. More on that later this year ;)

  2. So, a month is a "long time". :)

Okay, more seriously, what changed that made you change your mind? Last post you were singing the praises of the game and thought you found a new long-term game. Now you can't even stomach to play the game.

What do you see now that you didn't see then? And, why couldn't you see them before?

    1. Well, I was wrong. I think Syncaine had the same problem. That, which I think are the "reasons" I quit I have listed already. In retrospect I more and more fall in love with the old, static, threat-based vanilla WoW combat.

    2. I'm curious why you think you were wrong. Did you get caught up in the hype? Did you think that the game was one thing then realize it was another? Were you enjoying something "new" because it was expected of you?

I'm curious, as you tend to be one of the more self-aware bloggers who can analyze something well when it comes to your own tastes. I'm very interested in your perspective and why your opinion changed so rapidly.

I don't think I was hyped. In fact, I was very critical. Maybe that was one reason as the game was surprisingly good in the beginning: much better than I had guessed.

I don't think I had a clear expectation. I was pretty critical of the multiplayer content from the start -> read my first post on that. I just somehow naively, hoped that the issue would go away.

Were you enjoying something "new" because it was expected of you?
I don't think so. Who would expect such a thing of me?

Well, I think, from the start, I pretty much knew that TESO wouldn't be good in the long run. The gameplay part of the multiplayer combat just wasn't good enough for me. I do enjoy slow, static vanilla WoW-like multiplayer content much more than fast 1st-person action.

I already wrote down why I quit TESO. There's really not any more to say about it. Some of these points I learnt pretty fast, others I learnt later. But after one month (not having played the 4th week) these points grew important enough to make me stop playing. I think ...

    4. Well, as I said, you ended your previous post with "I can well imagine playing this game for some time. I don't say this lightly." It seems that you had a pretty drastic change of heart, and I'm trying to understand that.

Ah, well. You should still post more. :)
